It's Been Election Day All Week.

We're up in the polls, folks!

Well. Technically, it's just the one poll. But I sound way cooler when I say "up in the polls." When I say "up in the polls," I even cancel out the uncoolness of saying things like "way cooler" and "uncoolness."

Go over and check it out at Little Miss Fortune's blog. If you feel so inclined, vote. Either way, someone ends up a winner!

I got a kick out of the logic of this commenter on the LMF blog:

"From the referenced blog: 'A typical wedding these days... can cost
about $30, 000. We're NOT looking for that kind of fancy-schmancy wedding.
Our goal (since you're asking, Homestar) is to raise $10,000 THROUGH A
COMBINATION OF DONATIONS AND OUR OWN SAVINGS.' - It doesn't sound like they're not making an effort. Which means if these two save $9,999 and online donors donate $10, then cancer makes $9 to their $1.

How much does ad space online cost? On any site? I love the notion that
an $0.01 donation gets you ad space on someone else's site.

Finally, let's talk about the use of your $25, LMF: With that $25 you
could buy nearly 1/4% of a wedding. Or you could put a drop in the bucket of
a $145 million program. Your dollars have way more influence helping the
little guy. - If you were just there, you know how tough this is. - And
finally: what the heck? Send the $25 to the soonlyweds."

I've been repeating over and over here that what this blog is all about is not CHARITY -- although sometimes people do donate to us and want nothing in return. We do respond to our supporters and we do offer to advertise/plug/make fun of anything they'd like. (Within reason. I do have my limits.) If you go back to some earlier posts and/or take a look at the side bar, you'll see the links and images that were provided to us by our noble supporters.

If I were a smarter human, I may have been able to come up with something so eloquent and so matter-of-fact as our Anonymous Commenter. But alas, alack, Alanis Morrisette... I am not and I did not. Luckily for us and this little blog, though, someone else did!

In other news, we've received two donations this week, and I'm still waiting to get word on what our happy supporters would like us to blog all over (ew! gross!) for them.*

As always, we appreciate the support for our wedding and for the people/artists/just plain awesome people whose links you see to the right.

Contact us at helpmakecents@gmail.com if you need some good conversation.

* One of our supporters asked if we had considered posting our progess for everyone to see. I've happily taken her suggestion and put up the obligatory Donations Thermometer (as if when we get to $10,000 or above, we'll be really, really hot?) so everyone can see how we're doing. Remember that the donations are only PART of the progress -- I've combined all efforts here. The DT (um... Donations Thermometer? what's a hipper way to abbreviate that?) shows what we've earned through donations, what we've been gifted from family, what we've got saved up, and any money we've already spent on this wedding. So far. So good.
